Goals and competencies

The goals of this Master's degree are in line with the stipulates of the Spanish Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (MECES) and ensure the achievement of the basic competencies required to obtain a master's degree, following article 3.3, Appendix I of R.D. 1393/2007.

Fulfilment of the goals means students have achieved competencies that must be consistent with the fundamental rights of equality between men and women, with the principles of equal opportunities and universal accessibility for the disabled, and with the values proper to a democratic and peace-loving culture.

Specific admission conditions


Entry profile

To study the Master's Degree in Ancient Mediterranean it is advisable to have completed studies in the field of Arts and Humanities. Specifically in degrees related to History, Historical and Archaeological Heritage of the Ancient World, Cultural Management, Classical Philology, Egyptology and those degrees in related areas abroad.


In order to compensate for any possible training deficiencies that may exist in each case, depending on the students' degree of origin and their professional experience, students will be required to take compensatory training credits prior to the Master's Degree. This recommendation will be made by means of personalised tutoring and assessment of each student's previous skills.

In addition, it is also recommended:

  • A level of foreign language proficiency equivalent to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
  • A level of user-level competence in the use of information and communication technologies.

Admission criteria:

No specific admission criteria.

However, students who do not come from the fields of Arts and Humanities must take a minimum of 6 credits and a maximum of 12 ECTS credits of complementary training. These credits will be taught in 6 subjects to be taken prior to the start of the Master's degree:

  • History I. From the origins of civilisation to the Middle Ages (6 ECTS)
  • History of Art (6 ECTS)
  • Latin language. Language, literature and culture (6 ECTS)
  • Classical philosophical and scientific thought (6 ECTS)
  • Social and cultural anthropology (6 ECTS)
  • The Classical World II. From the Rome of myth to the myth of Rome (6 ECTS)
  • Anthropology of religion (6 ECTS)

The identification of the training complements will be carried out by the tutor and will be developed in a personalised manner during the incorporation period, prior to the first matriculation.
